Messianic Judaism Next, or MJ Next, is a podcast founded to ignite candid and long-overdue conversations confronting current issues within Messianic Judaism, bringing it closer to a traditional, sustainable, and grown-up religion. We take the legitimacy of Torah and Messiah as givens well past re-litigation. Instead, we call for a Messianic Jewish Revolution that starts from the template of Judaism – complete with its collective wisdom, tradition, scholarship, lifecycles, and rabbinic pedigree – accepting Yeshua as the Messiah and the legitimacy of the New Covenant writings sans the filter of Christian dogma. We will tackle wide-ranging contemporary topics through uncompromising honesty and humor, serving up a crass, unorthodox style in service of an Orthodox Messianic Judaism. You can find us at https://www.mjnext.fm.We welcome and encourage your feedback. If you have topic suggestions, send us an email (info@mjnext.fm).
About Your Hosts
David Cook
David is a married father of 3 grown children and 3 wonderful grandchildren whom he adores. He is passionate about studying Torah and reading it in the original Hebrew. He’s been on a quest for over 30 years, trying to help the Messiainic Jewish community mature and blossom into its true calling, which he says, “feels like an ever moving target.” He is also a business owner and an avid reader who enjoys life.
He was raised a goy, but today his lifestyle is Jewish. He’s flirted with the idea of converting and is sometimes asked by Jews why he hasn’t already. He’s still trying to answer that question.
His conviction: The rapture has ruptured, and the Law has been upheld, not fulfilled.
Drake Dunaway
Drake is a divorced father of one lovely daughter whom he relishes spoiling . He lives and works in Marketing in Atlanta amid a busy life of running, lifting, and Japanese swordsmanship. Fatally, he's resigned to bachelorhood after trekking The Great and Terrible Wilderness of the MJ dating scene and leans into stoic self-improvement.
Drake flunked his Messianic Jewish conversion and remains a dilettante scholar wafted along the movement for over a decade in a tandem jump in Chabad and Conservative Judaism. He enjoys Talmudic Law, Midrash, Kabbalah, and Torah alongside Western classical literature. To him, Athens and Jerusalem are only reconciled by fine wine. Frasier is his favorite sitcom.
Drake despises the catch-all label of gentile preferring his cognomen: The Painted Heathen.
He keeps his prayers rote, his Hebrew rusty, and his Spanish fluent.
Sola Scriptura's a crock, and so's your mom.
